Astro

The KO II is a creative sampler and sequencer inspired by retro gaming and sound design, blending nostalgic elements with cutting-edge technology. I designed this piece to evoke memories of vintage electronic devices, yet with a fresh, contemporary twist that speaks to modern producers and sound enthusiasts.

Design process

The goal was to merge functional design with a minimalist aesthetic. Starting with sketches, I focused on maintaining a clean, straightforward interface that would appeal to users of all skill levels. The compact form factor and intuitive button layout were key to making the device both highly usable and visually appealing.

Tools used

Blender

The 3D modeling process was entirely done in Blender, allowing for precise control over the layout and proportions of each component. The focus was on making the design sleek without sacrificing functionality.

Adobe illustrator

For the interface design, Illustrator was crucial in creating the clean, crisp icons and labels. The typography and color choices reflect a retro aesthetic while ensuring clarity and ease of use.

Substance painter

Textures were created using Substance Painter to give the surface a high-quality finish. The device's casing has a smooth, matte texture, contrasting with the glossy, digital screen.
